February 01, 2023 | Football
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville football team celebrated its second National Signing Day of the 2023 recruiting cycle by adding offensive lineman Joe Crocker to its class on Wednesday.
With the addition of Crocker, head coach Jeff Brohm's recruiting class was topped at 26 players. Brohm signed 18 players in December, added six transfers and two incoming freshmen after the early signing period.
A three-star prospect from Nashville, Tenn., Crocker was rated the No. 71 offensive tackle and the No. 25 players in Tennessee. The 6-foot-7, 315-pounder was a first team All-State performer and an All-Region honoree.
A team captain, Crocker was voted one of the team's captains and was selected to in the Tennessee East-West game in 2022.
"Louisville is a national brand," Brohm said. "I think we have a chance to compete at a high level and recruit a high caliber of young men that want to come here and win championships."
The newest round of recruits was headlined by a pair of transfer wide receivers Kevin Coleman (Jackson State) and Jamari Thrash (Georgia State) as well as a veteran quarterback in Jack Plummer (California) who played under Brohm at Purdue from 2019-21.
"[Quarterback] is an important position and you want to make sure you have talented guys that can win you football games, lead the team, and make plays," added Brohm. "It was important to add a veteran to the mix. Jack obviously knows us and knows our system, and he's played a lot of football, so we feel good about him."
The Cardinals also added a trio of Power Five transfers in running back Isaac Guerendo (Wisconsin), offensive lineman John Paul Flores (Virginia), and linebacker Gilbert Frierson (Miami), while also pulling four-star tight end Jamari Johnson of Inglewood, Calif. from the high school ranks.
Preparation for Louisville's first season under Brohm will continue with the team's annual spring football game, which is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 21 at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium.
