Cardinals Travel to DePaul for Non-Conference Road Test

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville men's basketball plays its lone true road game in non-conference play at DePaul at 2 p.m. ET Saturday in Chicago, Ill. The game will air on FS1.

The Cardinals are coming off a 75-68 road loss to Virginia Tech on Sunday in their ACC opener. DePaul fell 89-64 at Texas A&M on Wednesday for its fifth straight defeat.

Louisville and DePaul have a long history as former conference mates in Conference USA and the Big East. The Cardinals lead the all-time series 38-22 and have won 18 of the last 21. UofL is 17-12 against the Blue Demons in Chicago.

• DePaul head coach Tony Stubblefield, an assistant at Oregon from 2010-21, previously worked with Louisville assistant coach Josh Jamieson during the latter's time as Director of Operations/Executive Director for the Ducks from 2007-22. DePaul Director of Athletics DeWayne Peevy and UofL head coach Kenny Payne previously worked together at Kentucky during Peevy's time as a senior administrator and Payne's as assistant/associate head coach for the Wildcats.

David Jones scored 23 of his career-high 33 points in the second half as DePaul fought past Louisville 62-55.

Jones, who was 10-for-12 shooting in the second half, sparked second-half runs of 8-0, 6-0 and 9-0 for the Blue Demons and his fast-break layup with 5:11 to play gave DePaul the lead for good.

He made 3 of 4 3-pointers and grabbed 14 rebounds. Javon Freeman-Liberty and Nick Ongenda added eight points apiece. Freeman-Liberty had four of the Blue Demons' seven steals.

Malik Williams scored a career-high 22 points for the Cardinals, with eight rebounds and three steals.

There were 11 lead changes and five ties as neither team could get ahead by more than nine.

Jones gave DePaul the lead for good with a driving layup, then added a step-back 3-pointer and a putback of a Terry missed 3 in a span of 1:16 as DePaul surged ahead 56-50. He scored nine of DePaul's last 13 points.
