
Cardinals Begin Home Week Against Boston College

Thursday’s game will be Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The RV/RV Louisville women's basketball team is back home for a pair of games this upcoming week. The Cardinals begin the home week with a matchup against Boston College on Thursday night. The Cardinals and Eagles with square off at 7 p.m. ET and the matchup will be streamed on ACCNX.
The Cardinals are coming off a 1-1 week where both games were down to one possession in the final minute. The Cards came out on top on Sunday against Florida State after Hailey Van Lith beat the shot clock to give the Cards a 79-75 lead with 25 seconds left. Van Lith had 20 points, eight rebounds, a career-high eight assists and five steals against the Seminoles. She is the only player in the NCAA with at least 20 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and five steals in a single game.
Van Lith earned ACC Player of the Week following her performance against the Seminoles and #13 Hokies. Against Virginia Tech Van Lith scored 29 points, the second-most points she has scored in a game in her career. She scored a total of 49 points this past week, the most by any ACC player. Her eight assists and five steals against the Noles were also the most by an ACC player in a game this past week.
Morgan Jones led the Cardinals against her former team with season highs in points (25) and rebounds (10). It was her first double-double with the Cardinals and the eighth of her career. Jones shot 90 percent against the Seminoles as she hit 9-of-10 shots, her highest field goal percentage of the season. The Cardinals handed the Seminoles their first loss at home this season (9-1) and their first loss when Florida State led at halftime (13-1).
The Cardinals carry a 14-game ACC home winning streak into Thursday's game against Boston College. The Cardinals have not lost an ACC game at home since the 2020-21 season. Louisville is 7-1 at the KFC Yum! Center this season and won its last four home games this year.

Boston College enters Thursday's game with a 13-7 record and are 3-4 in ACC games this season. The Eagles have ACC wins over Georgia Tech (74-62), NC State (79-71) and Florida State (77-71, OT), two opponents the Cardinals have already defeated this season. They are coming off an 0-2 week with a home loss to Syracuse (73-83) and road defeat to Virginia (50-66). The Eagles are led by Dontavia Waggoner, who averages 13.8 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game. She ranks eighth in the ACC in rebounds and 11th in points. Freshman Taina Mair leads the Eagles with 7.0 assists per game, a mark that is second in the ACC and seventh nationally. Head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee was on the same staff as Jeff Walz at Maryland and both played an integral part of the Terrapins' National Championship in 2006.

The Cardinals (15-1, 5-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) haven't lost since dropping their season-opener to Arizona in overtime. The Eagles had their four-game winning streak snapped. Both teams played tough man-to-man defense and made running half-court offense very difficult. The Cardinals pushed a seven-point halftime lead to 37-25 on Smith's 3-pointer early in the third quarter before the Eagles went on an 8-0 run. Louisville, which trailed by 10 points after the first quarter, relied on its defense which came in ranked second in the nation allowing just 69.6 points per game. The Cardinals got their offense started, too, during a 13-1 spurt to open the second quarter, taking their first lead of the game on Chelsie Hall's left-wing jumper and never trailed again. The win marked head coach Jeff Walz's 400th win of his career.
