Meet the 2022 Cross Country Newcomers
August 25, 2022 | Cross Country
LOUISVILLE, KY. - As final preparations are being made for the first meet of the year, the University of Louisville cross country team welcomes 17 newcomers to campus, with 10 on the women's side and seven for the men. Each will also compete in the winter and spring for the Cardinals' indoor and outdoor track and field programs.
"When you really look at our cross country roster this season, what you're going to see is a huge change from last year," said head coach Dale Cowper last week at UofL's Fall Sports Media Day. "Over 50 percent of our team is new this year. As we go through the season, we are excited to have newcomers and new faces - underclassmen and upperclassmen - as well as a new schedule…We're really excited about the group of student-athletes that have joined us."
The incoming class brings a new look to a team that lost 16 athletes from last season's roster. Last year, the Louisville women finished 13th at the ACC Championships, while the men placed 10th in the conference.
On the women's side, returners include sophomores Megan John and Lexie Paszkiewicz who came on strong at the end of the season to score for the team in both of UofL's postseason meets. For the men, Ian Kibiwot returns for his sophomore year after leading the Cardinals through the finish line in all five meets, including a 24th place finish at the ACC Championships.
