GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Louisville women's track and field athlete Gabriela Leon has been named the ACC Women's Co-Field Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Â
This is the second straight week and third time this season that Leon has received the honor. She shares the distinction with North Carolina senior Jill Shippee.
Leon surpassed the women's outdoor pole vault school record with a facility-best and first-place height of 4.61m (15-1.5) at the Clark Wood Invitational. The redshirt senior's mark ranks first in the ACC and second nationally. It stands as the second-best all-time ACC women's outdoor pole vault mark and eighth-best all-time outdoor performer mark in collegiate history. Leon previously set the program record mark this season with a bar of 4.55m (14-11) at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and a 4.57m (15-0) at the Indiana Invitational. The finish marks Leon's third consecutive meet win.
Louisville opens postseason competition with the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 12-14 at Duke's Morris Williams Stadium in Durham, NC.
