
Savage, Leon and Welter Qualify on Day Two of NCAA East Preliminary Round

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Synclair Savage, Gabriela Leon and Aliyah Welter turned in impressive performances for the University of Louisville track and field team to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the second day of the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor East Preliminary Round Thursday at Indiana's Robert C. Haugh Complex in Bloomington, Ind.
On her second attempt, Savage recorded the fifth-best mark of the women's long field with a clearance of 6.32m (20-9). The finish is the second farthest wind-legal mark of her outdoor career behind her school-record 6.44m (21-1.5) at the Indiana Invitational this season.
Leon and Welter cleared a height of 4.31m (14-1.75) to advance to the national meet. The qualifying bar is tied for the second highest of Welter's outdoor career.
In the first round of the women's 400-meter hurdles, Katie Martin tied the second fastest finish of her career with a time of 58.61 seconds to earn a spot in quarterfinals on Saturday.
Jorge Contreras, Bryan Hudson and Adar Sheere open competition for the Cardinals on Friday with the men's discus throw at 1:00 p.m. ET.
