John Michael Hayden has led the Cardinals to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2021 ACC Atlantic Division title.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville men's soccer head coach John Michael Hayden has signed a contract extension to remain with the Cardinals through Dec. 31, 2026.
Hayden just wrapped up his third season at the helm of the Louisville program, where he served as an assistant for four seasons previously.
"I can't thank Josh Heird and Matt Banker enough for their continued belief in me," Hayden said. "This program truly means so much to my family and me. I am thrilled to continue my work for the program!
"I also want to thank the players and staff who have helped us achieve both the on-field and off-field successes over the years. I don't get an opportunity like this without the commitment others share for the program. Our goals have not changed, and we will continue working towards accomplishing them. I know I am extremely fortunate to be in the position I'm in and will work tirelessly to make our alumni and our fan base proud."
Under Hayden's leadership, Louisville earned NCAA Tournament berths in 2019 and 2021, reaching the third round of the tournament in 2019. Hayden led the Cardinals to the program's first-ever ACC Atlantic Division title in 2021 and had UofL ranked as high as No. 14 during the fall.
"John Michael has been with this program for seven years now, the last three as our head coach," Louisville Interim Athletic Director Josh Heird said. "He understands the rich tradition and success this program has created over the years. He helped guide our program to their first-ever ACC Atlantic Division title last year and I am confident he will build on that success. He is a leader in the soccer community and I hope he continues to lead this program for many years to come."
Hayden has also continued Louisville's tradition of sending student-athletes into professional soccer with at least one Louisville player being selected in the first two rounds of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft in each of his three seasons.
