
Cards Take Down Georgia Tech and Tennessee State in Sunday Doubleheader

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Georgia Tech 4-3 and Tennessee State 4-0 in a doubleheader Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals have now won seven straight matches, improving to 10-4 on the season and 2-0 in ACC play.

"I'm really proud of the guys," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "We played some tough matches this weekend and we really fought through and had some great performances. We hope to take the momentum from these matches with us next week when we go on the road. We had a great crowd today against Georgia Tech – our fans and tennis community really make a difference when we are playing at home and we are very grateful for their support."

The Cardinals will return to action next weekend when they hit the road for a pair of ACC matches starting with a Friday contest at Virginia Tech followed by a Sunday showdown at No. 18 Virginia.

No. 45 Louisville 4 – No. 44 Georgia Tech 3
Freshman Etienne Donnet rallied to upset No. 12 Andres Martin 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 to clinch the 4-3 win for the Cardinals.

Louisville earned the doubles point in thrilling fashion. The Yellow Jackets gained an early advantage when the No. 8-ranked duo of Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel edged Natan Rodrigues and Matthew Fung 6-4 on court 1 to start doubles play, but Alex Wesbrooks and Etienne Donnet defeated Pablo Schlecher and Angel Guerrero 7-5 to even things up. Tin Chen and Sergio Hernandez battled Keshav Chopra and Chen Dong to a 6-6 tie before prevailing 8-6 in a tiebreaker to put Louisville ahead 1-0 in the match.

In singles, Georgia Tech evened the score with a win on court four and followed with a victory at No. 2 to take a 2-1 lead.
Louisville responded as David Mizrahi defeated Guerrero 6-4, 6-2 to tie the match up again. Natan Rodrigues registered a 6-2, 6-2 win against Schlecher at No. 5 to put the Cardinals on top, but Georgia Tech countered with a win at No. 4.

With the match tied at 3-3, the match came down to court one where Etienne Donnet rebounded after a 6-4 first set loss to beat 12th-ranked Andres Martin 7-5 in the second set. The freshman went on to complete the upset with a 6-1 victory in the third set to clinch the win for Louisville.

In their second match of the day, the Cardinals again took the doubles point to start the match. Etienne Donnet and Alex Wesbrooks bested Nil Moinet and Diego Britt-Alvarez 6-2 at the two-spot and on court one, Matthew Fung and Natan Rodrigues teamed to beat Leandros Misdrachis and Maksims Kazijevs 6-2. David Mizrahi and Josh Howard-Tripp picked up a 6-3 win over Pierre Copin and Daniel Perez Caraballo to wrap up doubles play.

In singles action, Louisville quickly took a 2-0 lead with Donnet's 6-0, 6-1 win over Kaijevs at No. 1. Rodrigues topped Copin 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 to push the lead to 3-0 and Matthew Fung secured the win on court five where he defeated Misdrachis 6-4, 6-1.
