Cards Roll Past Virginia Tech For Eighth Straight Win

Blacksburg, Va. – The No. 36 University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Virginia Tech 6-1 to record its eighth straight win at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The teams split the first two doubles matches with the Hokies taking Court 3 and Matthew Fung and Natan Rodrigues upsetting No. 9 Ryan Fishback and Jordan Chrysostom 6-3. The duo of Etienne Donnet and Alex Wesbrooks outlasted Alvaro Ariza and Scott Sculley 7-6 (8-6) to give Louisville a 1-0 lead going into singles.
Rodrigues defeated Michael Shepheard 6-1, 6-2 to continue his impressive freshman season and Josh Howard-Tripp defeated Hugo Maia 6-2, 6-3 to extend Louisville's lead to 3-0. Tin Chen bested Ariza 6-3, 6-2 and David Mizrahi topped Carlo Donato 7-6 (7-1), 6-0.
No. 103 Ryan Fishback held off No. 92 Etienne Donnet 6-1, 7-5 to give the Hokies a point but Louisville responded as Matthew Fung took down Alberto Orso 7-6 (12-10), 6-0 to give the Cardinals their eighth win in a row.
Louisville improves to 11-4 (3-0 ACC) with the win and Virginia Tech falls to 4-10 (0-3 ACC).
Up next, the Cardinals will head to Charlottesville, Va. to face No. 14 Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m.
