Charlottesville, Va. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 6-1 to the No. 14 Virginia Cavaliers at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar's Head Resort on Sunday afternoon.
Louisville (11-5, 4-1 ACC) sees its eight-match winning streak snapped while Virginia improves to (10-5, 4-0 ACC) with the win.
In doubles, the Cardinals battled but Virginia would ultimately take the doubles point behind a pair of 6-4 wins.
Virginia earned singles wins on Courts 1, 3 and 4 to extend their lead to 4-0 but Louisville responded when Matthew Fung defeated Alexander Kiefer 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 10-6 to earn a point for the Cardinals.
Louisville took the two remaining singles matches to a third set including an impressive effort by Josh-Howard Tripp on Court 2, where he fell to No. 58 Jeff von der Schulenburg 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 14-12. David Mizrahi was outlasted by William Woodall 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4) to conclude the match.
Up next, the Cardinals return to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to host Miami on Friday at 3 p.m. and Florida State on Sunday at noon.
