Cardinals Come Up Short Against Virginia Tech

LOUISVILLE, Ky – The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 4-3 to Virginia Tech in conference play at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
Louisville got off to a strong start in doubles as Dina Chaika and Chelsea Sawyer defeated Elizabet Danailova and Rita Pinto 6-2 at the three-spot. Tatiana Simova and Andrea Di Palma bested Erika Cheng and Chhinda Som 6-3 to clinch the doubles point for the Cards. Sasha Gorchanyuk and Rhea Verma took down Katie Andreini and Annie Clark 6-3 at the one-spot.
In singles, Virginia Tech took a 2-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court 4 and a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 victory at the two-spot. The Cardinals answered to tie the match at 2-2 when Chelsea Sawyer rallied to defeat Dariya Radulova 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Virginia Tech outlasted Louisville in the next two singles matches, winning both in a third set to clinch the match for the Hokies. Andrea Di Palma earned the Cardinals a point at the end with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 win over Elizabet Danailova.
Louisville drops to 8-8 (0-7 ACC) with the loss and Virginia Tech improves to 6-11 (2-6 ACC) with the win.
Up next, the Cardinals will go on the road to face Syracuse on Friday at 3 p.m to continue conference play.
