Two Cardinals Earn Second Swims, 200 Free Relay Ahead on Day 1 at NCAAs

Hay sets a school record in the 200 IM
The Louisville Cardinals put two swimmers into the finals this evening after a busy morning of prelims a the 2022 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday morning at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
In the 500 freestyle, Liberty Williams placed 20th with a time 4:42.24. The top qualifier was Lia Thomas' 4:33.82.Â

Abby Hay put up the fourth fastest prelim time in the 200 IM. She dropped almost a second off her entry time, putting up a 1:54.33 to earn a sport in the A-final tonight. Her time set a new school mark by almost a second (Rachael Bradford-Feldman's 1:55.67 in 2018.) Freshman Rye Ulett finished 28th with a time of 1:56.88 just .02 shy of her sister Tristen Ulett's freshman record set last year. Tristen touched in 1:57.52. Mariia Astashkina boarded a 2:00.19 and Maria Sumida went 2:02.36.  Virginia's Alex Walsh's time of 1:53.00 was good for the top seed tonight.

Gabi Albiero posted a time of 21.81 in the 50 free prelims to make the consols tonight. Christiana Regenauer went 22.15 and Arina Openysheva turned in a 22.56. Kate Douglass of Virginia was the top qualifier with a 20.87.
