Cardinals Fall Short at Middle Tennessee State

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 4-2 to host Middle Tennessee State Friday evening.
The Cardinals (3-4) will wrap up a fie on February 12 when they travel to East Lansing, Michigan to take on Michigan State.
The Blue Raiders took the doubles point to start the match with wins on courts 1 and 3. The 44th ranked duo of Pavel Motl and Stijn Slump topped Matthew Fung and Natan Rodrigues 6-3 at No. 1 while Chris Edge and Stepan Holis teamed to beat Josh Howard-Tripp and Tin Chen 6-3 at the three-spot.
In singles action, MTSU took a 2-0 lead when Edge defeated Chen 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3.
The Cardinals answered with Sergio Hernandez's 6-2, 6-4 win over Pavel Motl on court 5 as Louisville cut the lead in half. Natan Rodrigues followed with a 6-3, 7-5 win against No. 106 Holis at the four-spot to even the score at 2-2.
On court 6, Louisville's David Mizrahi rebounded from a 6-4 first set loss to beat Oskar Poulsen 6-1 in the second set before the Blue Raider prevailed 6-4 in the third, giving Middle Tennessee a 3-2 lead.
The match was decided on court 1 where UofL's Etienne Donnet picked up a 6-3 win in the first set, but Middle Tennessee's No. 30-ranked Stinjn Slump won the next two sets 6-4, 6-4 to end the contest.
On court 2, Josh Howard-Tripp and No. 82 Francisco Rocha split sets with Rocha taking the first by a score of 6-2 and Howard-Tripp battling back for a 6-3 win in the second. Their match was abandoned with Rocha leading 5-3 in the third.
