Louisville Downed at Kentucky, 26-13
November 26, 2022 | Football
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Louisville football team fell to instate rival Kentucky in the final game of the regular season, dropping a 26-13 decision on Saturday. The Cardinals wrap up the regular season at 7-5 overall.Â
Â
Kentucky scored the first 13 points, but UofL put points on the board with a touchdown from Malik Cunningham heading into the locker room before halftime. The Wildcats scored three more times in the second half before the Cardinals scored for the final time on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Brock Domann to Tyler Hudson in the fourth quarter.Â
Â
Domann threw for 129 yards and one touchdown on 14-of-21 passing. Hudson recorded 83 yards receiving and a touchdown, surpassing 1,000 yards for the season. Jawhar Jordan led the Cardinals on the ground with 145 rushing yards.Â
Â
The defense was led by Monty Montgomery, who had nine tackles and one tackle for loss. The Cardinal defense had two sacks, seven tackles for loss, one pass breakup and four quarterback hurries.Â
Â
Louisville Head Coach Scott Satterfield Said:
Â
"Overall, I think it just comes down to not throwing enough offensively. And then turning the ball over three times like we did. It made a difference in this game.
Â
Kentucky does a really good job of keeping everything in front of them. We needed to be a little more patient, trying to take it in the routes, still thought we ran the ball pretty well. In the throw game, we just didn't generate much. With throwing into coverage, that ended up biting us a few times. They have some good length on the perimeter, both outside linebackers are 6-5 and drop off in the zones and that makes it very difficult to find windows. On Malik's (Cunningham) pick, we were trying to hit T Huddy (Tyler Hudson) on a skinny route and the backers floated up underneath it and ended up getting the interception. To me, that was the difference in the game, we couldn't generate enough offensively throwing the football. We ran the ball pretty decent tonight. But it comes down to those throws and we got behind, which makes it more difficult. They are going to run the clock out and run the football. They want us to try to force it down the field and not be patient with it. We can't run out of time, but we also need to make it down the field. I thought they did a good job with that, and we did not."
