GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four University of Louisville student-athletes have been honored on the 2021 All-ACC Academic Football Team, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Louisville players represented on the team are linebacker C.J. Avery, safety Qwynnterrio Cole, punter Mark Vassett and wide receiver Ahmari Huggins-Bruce. Avery earned the recognition for the fourth-straight season, while the three other student-athletes are first-time honorees.
Avery, a sport administration major, led the Cardinals in tackles for the third-straight season with 97 stops, including three games of 10 or more tackles. He recorded 12 stops versus Wake Forest and 10 versus Clemson and Air Force. The linebacker also notched 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks.
Cole, who's in the post graduate program, finished second on the team after transferring from Alcorn State. The Memphis, Tenn., native registered 86 tackles, including a UofL high of 15 tackles versus Kentucky. Cole recorded his first interception at Wake Forest and was third on the team with six pass break-ups.
A punter from Melbourne, Australia, Vassett averaged 41.7 yards per punt in his first season with the Cardinals. He placed 17 punts inside the opposition's 20-yard line and 17 of his punts were fair caught. The undecided major also had six punts of 50 or more yards.
Huggins-Bruce, a sports administration major, finished fourth on the squad with 29 receptions for 444 yards and four scores in his true freshman campaign. The native of Dillon, S.C., caught four passes for 151 yards, including a 94-yard reception versus Eastern Kentucky and totaled a career six best receptions for 54 yards and his first multi-score game against Syracuse.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
