
Cards Place 10 on ACC All-Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The University of Louisville track and field program placed 10 student-athletes on the 2021 All-ACC Academic Outdoor Track & Field teams. Christian Buckley, Justin Lehmkuhler, Sean Roth, Adar Sheere and Sterling Warner-Savage represented Louisville on the men's side while Makenli Forrest, Halee Hudson, Gabriela Leon, Renate Van Tonder and Aliyah Welter were among the Cardinal women to earn the honor.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.

Buckley, a senior from Hurricane, W. Va., earned second-team All-ACC honors after a fifth-place finish in the shot put at the 2021 ACC Outdoor Championship. The mechanical engineering/bioengineering major also qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round.

Lehmkuhler (Versailles, Ky.) turned in an impressive rookie campaign. He was an All-ACC second team performer, finishing fourth in the decathlon in the ACC Outdoor Championships with a personal best score of 5,997. The chemical engineering major also earned All-ACC Indoor Academic Team honors.

Roth, a graduate student from Düsseldorf, Germany, was a first-team all-ACC honoree finished fifth in the pole vault at the ACC Outdoor Championships. During the season, he set the school outdoor record and went on to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Round. The MBA student was also named to the All-ACC Indoor Academic Team.

Sheere, a sophomore transfer from Memphis, was an All-America Honorable Mention after placing 20th in the discus throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Givatayim, Israel native finished sixth in the 2021 ACC Championship to earn all-conference second team honors. His season-best mark of 57.63 (189-1) came in the NCAA East Preliminary Round on May 29. He is majoring in economics.Â

Warner-Savage, a redshirt sophomore from Snellville, Ga., qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round after earning All-ACC second team honors with a sixth place finish in the 100m. He owns the school record in the 100m dash along with four of the top five times in the school record book. The exercise science major was also an All-ACC Academic Indoor Track and Field Team selection.

Forrest (Ellenwood, Ga.) was an All-ACC second team performer with a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw outdoor championship. She also qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round. The health and human performance/exercise science major was also named to the 2021 ACC Indoor Academic Team.

Hudson (Williamstown, Ky.) completed her redshirt senior season with second team All-ACC honors after a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw at the conference championship. She also qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round. The graduate student in exercise science was an Indoor All-ACC Academic Indoor Team selection.

Leon won the gold medal in the pole vault at the 2021 ACC Outdoor Championships. The senior from Grand Rapids, Mich., owns the school record and the top five marks in the event. She also qualified for the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round. The exercise science major was an All-ACC Indoor Academic selection.

Van Tonder (Pretoria, South Africa) qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in both the high jump and the long jump. The redshirt senior earned second team All-ACC honors after a fourth-place finish in the long jump at the conference championship. She is majoring in finance.

Welter was an NCAA second team All-American, finishing tied for 16th in the pole vault at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships. The redshirt sophomore was an all-ACC second team performer with a fourth-place showing in the conference championship. She matched a personal-best height of 4.17m (13-8.25) in the NCAA Preliminary Round to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The exercise science major also earned All-ACC Indoor Academic Team honors.
