
Louisville Baseball Hosts Vanderbilt in Battle of the Barrel

First pitch is now scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 11th-ranked University of Louisville baseball team is back on its home turf on Tuesday night for a nationally-ranked showdown against No. 2 Vanderbilt in the annual "Battle of the Barrel". First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on ESPNU. Radio coverage of the contest can be heard on 93.9 The Ville.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
The Cardinals were swept in three games at Clemson over the weekend, marking the first time they've been swept in 59 conference series since joining the ACC in 2015. The last sweep against Louisville came May 5-7, 2011 at Seton Hall.
It will have been 23 days since the Cardinals last played at Jim Patterson Stadium when they take the field on Tuesday. Louisville's last home game came on April 11 in an 11-4 victory over Florida State. The 23 days is the longest stretch between home contests since also going 23 days from March 13-April 5, 1979.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville and Vanderbilt will meet for the 38th time on Tuesday night, with the Commodores leading the all-time series 27-10. Vanderbilt is 10-5 all-time in Louisville, including a 6-2 victory in the last meeting between the two at Jim Patterson Stadium in 2019. The annual "Battle of the Barrel" rivalry is even 4-4 since its inception in 2012.

- Louisville's offense ranks among the best in the ACC this season. The Cardinals currently lead the ACC in batting average, on-base percentage, triples, stolen bases and hits per game. UofL is second in the league in slugging percentage and runs per game.
- The Cardinals' offense has registered double digit hits in 20 games this season (nine or more in 25 games), and tallied at least one home run in 28 of 37 games.
- The Cardinals have been the one of the best in the country on the basepaths this season with 93 stolen bases, 39 more than anyone in the ACC. Levi Usher leads the ACC and is fourth in the country with 24, while Cooper Bowman is second in the ACC with 15, Luke Brown fourth with 13, and Henry Davis is seventh with 10.
PLAYER NOTES
- Alex Binelas got off to a slow start but has returned to being a major run producer in the middle of the Louisville order. Over his last 21 games, Binelas is hitting .325 (27-for-83) with three doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 35 RBIs. He registered his third career multi-homer game against Florida State, including his first career grand slam, and later homered in all three games of the series at Virginia. Binelas also recorded two triples against Western Kentucky, becoming the first Louisville player with two triples in a game since Ty Young did so against Notre Dame on March 28, 2013.
- Trey Leonard is having the best season of his Louisville career in 2021. The junior currently ranks third in the ACC with a .373 batting average. Leonard had a career night at Cincinnati going 4-for-6 with three RBIs against and hitting a go-ahead home run in the sixth, a game-tying double in the eighth and adding another double in the 10th. Over the last 15 games, Leonard is hitting .379 (22-for-58) with five doubles, a triple, three homers and 15 RBIs.
- Henry Davis has been the most consistent hitter for the Cardinals this season. Davis saw his 23-game hitting streak come to an end in the second game at Notre Dame, the only game he hasn't recorded a hit this season, and currently has a 15-game hit streak. The sophomore leads the ACC in on-base percentage and ranks second in batting average. He also ranks top 10 in hits, stolen bases, walks, runs, RBIs, total bases and slugging percentage. Davis has 10 stolen bases after having just one through his first two seasons at Louisville. Over his last 15 games, Davis is hitting .444 (24-for-54) with four doubles, four home runs, 12 RBIs, 15 walks and a .589 on-base percentage.
- Dalton Rushing made just two starts between March 7 and April 10. He returned to the starting lineup on April 11 against Florida State and tallied a pair of hits, including a game-tying double. Rushing then started the first two games at Virginia and proceeded to homer in each contest, and then put together a three-hit night with another home run at Kentucky. In his last six starts, Rushing is 9-for-23 (.391) with two doubles, three home runs and 10 RBIs.
- Kaleb Corbett, Jared Poland and Michael Prosecky each returned to the mound during the Clemson series after missing extended time due to injuries. Corbett pitched for the first time since March 30, while Prosecky was on the mound for the first time since March 7 and Poland took the ball for the first time since Opening Day.
