Virginia Tech Edges Louisville 4-3

Louisville, Ky. – The No. 50 University of Louisville men's tennis team came up short against No. 29 Virginia Tech 4-3 Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 9-10 (3-7, ACC) on the season, while Virginia Tech improves to 11-7 (6-5, ACC).
"This was a tough loss, but I am proud of the way these guys are competing," said Coach Rodrigo da Silva. "We have another tough match on Sunday against Virginia that I'm sure they've circled on the calendar. We have got to be ready and compete hard again."
The Cards took the doubles point to start the match. Kyle Tang and Alex Wesbrooks cruised past Ryan Kros and Matthis Ross 6-0 on court one. Shortly after, No. 63 Matthew Fung and Fabien Salle took down No. 25 Ryan Fishback and Jordan Chrysostom 6-3 on court one to clinch the doubles point.
Louisville extended its lead with No. 57 Salle defeating Ross 6-3, 6-3 at the two-spot.
The Hokies got on the scoreboard on court one where Mitch Harper defeated Tin Chen 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 win
Virginia Tech added to its lead score with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 win on court three, where Hugo Maia defeated Josh Howard-Tripp. The Cards battled back with No. 71 Sergio Hernandez defeating No. 78 Carlo Donato 7-6, 7-5. The Hokies quickly tied the match with a 7-6, 7-5 win on court six with Alvaro Ariza slipping past David Mizrahi 7-6, 7-5.
All eyes turned to court five where Fishback and Matthew Fung were duking it for the final point of the match. Fishback took the first set 6-3, but Fung responded winning the second set 6-3. The third set went back and forth and at one point was tied 4-4. However, Fishback pushed forward in the final stretch of the match, clinching 6-4.
Up Next: The Cards close out the regular season with on Sunday, March 18 against No. 5 Virginia at 1 p.m. in the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
