March 07, 2021 | Men's Tennis
Louisville, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 4-1 to Duke Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 5-6 (1-5, ACC) on the season, while Duke improves to 7-5 (3-1, ACC).
"I'm proud of our guys today, they kept fighting into the end," Coach Rodrigo da Silva said. "We are close to getting in the win column. Now we are going to set our focus on Middle Tennessee next week and bounce back."Â
In doubles, the Louisville duo of Tin Chen and Sergio Hernandez flew past Edu Guell and Luca Kesit 6-1 at No.2. Duke responded to the early Louisville push with Sean Sculley and Garrett Johns outlasting Matthew Fung and Fabien Salle 6-3 at No.1.
In the first match where spectators were in attendance, all eyes turned to court three which would decide who would receive the doubles point. The match was back and forth and eventually went to a 6-6 tiebreaker. Duke's Samuel Rubell and Andrew Zhang outlasted Josh Howard-Tripp and Alex Wesbrooks 13-11 in the tiebreaker to clinch the first point of the match.
Duke kept the momentum going in singles by quickly adding another point with Faris Khan winning on court six, 6-2, 6-0 over Wesbrooks. David Mizrahi lost his first set to Luca Keist 6-2 and battled in the second set, but Keist pulled off the 7-5 victory.
Hernandez scored Louisville only point of the match by beating Edu Guell on court three 6-1, 7-5. Shortly after, Duke clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-1 win on court four with Andrew Zhang defeating Josh Howard-Tripp.
