Cardinals Defeat Butler 7-0
March 24, 2021 | Men's Tennis
Louisville, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team bounced back with a win against the Butler Bulldogs 7-0 Wednesday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
With the win, the Cardinals snap a three-match losing streak and improve to 6-7 (1-5, ACC) on the season and the Bulldogs fall to 3-4.
"I was really proud of the guys and their effort today," said UofL volunteer assistant Chris McRae who was acting as head coach. "With the conditions the way they were – we've been indoors for so long, so to be outside with the wind gusting today – we had up to 20-mile per hour winds – to be able to focus in and get a 7-0 win – very happy with that. I felt very proud to be out there with them competing. Whether it was singles or doubles, they came out there swinging and played hard and loose."
The Cardinals took the doubles point with ease. Tin Chen and Sergio Hernandez flew past Thomas Brennan and Alvaro Huet 6-1 on court two. Shortly after, court three finished with Josh Howard-Tripp and Alex Wesbrooks taking down the Bulldogs Michael Karr and Rayn Roegner 6-3 to give Louisville the early 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles action, Matthew Fung defeated Miralles Borja 6-2, 6-2 to extend the Cardinals lead to 2-0. Chen dropped Michael Dickson 6-1, 6-3 on court one. Louisville
clinched the match with Howard-Tripp flying past Alvaro Huet Vadillo 6-2, 6-1.
Matches continued with No. 63 Hernandez defeating Michael Drew 6-4, 6-2 on court three. David Mizrahi took down Filip Tensing 6-3, 6-3 on court five. Salle scored
Louisville's last point in the match on court two splitting his first two sets 6-4, 6-4 against Thomas Brennan and taking the third sets 10-2 in a tiebreaker.
Up Next: The Cardinals head to Tallahassee, Fla. for a conference match-up against Florida State on Sunday, March 28 at 1 p.m. They were originally slated to travel to
Miami on Friday, but that match has been postponed due to COVID-19 protocols within the Miami program.
