The Cardinals Hit the Road for the General Hackler Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's golf team returns to action this weekend at the highly-touted 2021 General Hackler Championship at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The annual event will take place on March 14-16 and will a play par-72, 7,233 yard course. The three days of play will consist of 18 holes each day, with the first two rounds will beginning at 8:45 a.m. EST. The final round will tee off at 8:15 a.m.

The tournament field this year includes 16 teams in No. 8 North Carolina, No. 28 North Florida, No. 32 NC State, No. 47 Louisville, Miami (Ohio), UCF, Penn State, Kent State, East Tennessee, Ole Miss, Indiana, Virginia Tech, North Carolina-Greensboro, East Carolina, Liberty, and Coastal Carolina.

The Cardinals will again send out a familiar lineup this weekend in Matthias Schmid, Jiri Zuska, John Murphy, Trevor Johnson and Devin Morley.

Schmid and Zuska put together solid final round  for the Cardinals last week in guiding the team into a tie for sixth place at the Trinity Forest Invitational.

The duo finished the tournament at 2-over-par, but it was Zuska who enjoyed the round of the day for the Cardinals. The junior carded a 2-under-par 69 to finish in a tie for 11th overall after shooting 73-73-69=215 for the tournament. Starting on the back nine, Zuska was 1-over-par on the first nine holes, but responded by shooting a 3-under on the front. He closed his round by registering birdies on three of his final four holes. The 11th-place finish was his best this spring.

After opening with a 76 on Sunday, Schmid continued to play better throughout his round, culminating with a 1-under-par 70 on Tuesday. He also tied for 11th after he shot 76-69-70=215. He opened the round by shooting a 2-under-par on his first nine holes and recorded a birdie and a pair of bogeys on his final nine holes to record his third-straight top-15 finish.

Morley will be playing in his third tournament of the spring.
