Camara Strikes Twice Late, Cardinals Down North Carolina 2-0
October 15, 2021 | Men's Soccer
Louisville improved to 8-1-0 on its home field this fall.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Aboubacar Camara scored twice in the final four minutes to lift the University of Louisville men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over North Carolina on Friday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Despite playing up a man for much of the second half, Louisville (9-4-0, 4-2-0 ACC) found itself deadlocked in a scoreless draw with under five minutes to play.
Approaching the 87-minute mark, a loose ball in the box was deflected by the Tar Heels and fell to the feet of Camara who sent it off the inside of the left post and into the net.
With the Cardinals working to run out the clock, the ball found Camara again with a chance to put the match away. The forward's shot beat both the defender and keeper for his second tally of the night with exactly one minute left on the clock.
The two goals give Camara 12 on the season, moving him into a tie for the national lead.
Detre Bell and the Louisville defense kept North Carolina (7-5-1, 2-4-0) off the board on the night for the Cardinals' sixth shutout of the season. Bell made a season-high five saves in goal.
UNC, which entered the night leading the country with 18.25 shots per match, was limited to just nine shots on the evening. The Cardinals finished with 12 shots and held a 57-43 edge in possession.
Louisville plays its second-to-last home match of the season on Tuesday against Oakland. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
