Checking in with All-American Martice Moore
April 22, 2020 | Track & Field
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Former Cardinal Martice Moore concluded his collegiate career with the University of Louisville track and field team last season, earning first team All-American honors in the 400m hurdles.
Â
Moore saved his best season for his senior year. He set the school record in the 400m hurdles at the NCAA East Preliminary Round with a time of 49.85 in the final round. Moore was also crowned the ACC champion in the 110m hurdles, becoming the first Louisville sprinter to earn an ACC title. He also went on to a runner-up in the 400m hurdles at the ACC Championships.
Â
With the 2020 season unexpectedly ended due to COVID-19, we are checking in with current and former athletes to see how they are spending their time while quarantined. This week we catch up with Moore and see what he has been doing since graduating from the University of Louisville in December.Â
Â
What are you doing with yourself during your free time?Â
"Right now, during my free time, all I am doing is eating and watching ESPN or the WWE. I have always been into wrestling and since this pandemic has happened, it has been my go-to on a daily basis. It feels good to be able to sit back for a while and feel like a kid again."
Â
What did you think when you heard about the suspension of the NCAA tournament and spring sports?
"I honestly think that we are doing the right thing by stopping and delaying all sports. With everything going on as far as this pandemic, it would not have been fair to the athletes nor the fans to resume any play until we can get this situation under control and 100 percent handled. So, as much as I hate to live in a world without any sports, I know that it is the right decision to be made and I will wait patiently to see our sports resume play."
Â
Were you training at the time?Â
"At the time, I was not training. I was taking a little time to just work and to just live life without track. After running for the past eight years and doing sports for the last 17 years of my life, my body needed a break for a while and I actually planned on not coming back to track until next year. But after all of this stuff happened it made me realize that maybe this is my second calling and that next year will be my year. So, to stay in shape during this time I am actually working out with my roommate Dwayne in our living room."
Â
What are your future plans for your athletic career?Â
"My future plans for my athletic career are pretty simple. I want to be the best track athlete to come out of the University of Louisville. From a success standpoint, we are known for producing some of the best talent, not only in the nation, but in the world. I want to go down as one of the greatest of all time and I know how much hard work that is going to take but if it weren't tough, I wouldn't want to do it. So it's time to get back on my high horse and let the world know that Martice's success did not stop after nationals in 2019, he still has big plans ahead."
Â
What was your favorite memory of your time here at UofL?
"My favorite memory from my time here would definitely be winning an ACC Championship. I wanted to cry so bad, but I had to hold all of my emotions in because I still had another race to run. But yes, winning aan ACC Championship is for sure my favorite memory here."
Â
Any words you would like to give to the Louisville fans out there?
"To all of the Louisville fans, I just want to say I love you all with all of my heart. Thank you for sticking with us through the good times and the bad times. I know that right now is a very difficult situation but this is not goodbye forever, this is just goodbye for now. As much as you are thinking of us during this time, we are thinking about you all so much more. You all mean the world to us and you are what make Card Nation so special. Thank you all for believing in me and watching me grow from an 18-year-old kid to a 21 year old man. I will forever be grateful for you all allowing me to call Louisville home for the past 4 years."
Â
Do you have a favorite 'binge show or series?
"I actually love to watch Teen Titans Go! Like I said, during this pandemic I have enjoyed feeling like a kid again and this was no exception!"

I am… and always will be a Louisville Cardinal. No matter wherever life may take me, Louisville will always be my home.
I have always... been so grateful for the opportunities I was given here at the University of Louisville. From being put on a poster, to my face being put up in the SAC, to the amount of love that I received my time here was great and I will be eternally grateful for the way Louisville loved me, just as much as I loved Louisville.
