Dez Fitzpatrick has caught 106 passes in his career for 1,756 yards.
LOUISVILLE. Ky. – University of Louisville wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick is ready for one last season.
After a successful 2019 campaign which culminated with a Music City Bowl title, the redshirt senior returns for his final year looking to set records and help his team elevates its status in the national rankings.
Fitzpatrick will gear up for the Cardinals after coming off a season in which he totaled 635 receiving yards with an average of 18.1 yards per play.
After contemplating his future after the win in the Music City Bowl, the leader has some unfinished business.
"When I committed here, I always wanted to win the ACC championship and always wanted to win the National Championship," Fitzpatrick said. "So, leaving without that, I just feel like I came to do something."
After helping guide a historic turnaround season for the Cardinals in 2019, Louisville's veteran has high expectations for his team in the upcoming year.
"We set our standard last year, and the goal for this team is to exceed that standard," Fitzpatrick said. "Now, I feel like everyone should be on the same page that our standard is an ACC Championship."
The Michigan native didn't have the production he hoped for in 2019, but the senior has put up fantastic numbers in his first three seasons, catching 106 passes for 1,756 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Fitzpatrick's upcoming season poses a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that reaches outside the game of football. His younger brother, Christian, enrolled in school in January and is teaming up with his brother this spring.
Last season, Christian totaled 611 receiving yards along with 10 touchdowns at Waterford Mott High School.
With Christian joining the Cardinals, the decision for Dez Fitzpatrick was simple. He was eager to get on the field with his brother for the first time, and finish out his career at Louisville.
,
"It was definitely a big factor," Dez said on his decision to stay in Louisville. "We never played football together, so for one year it's definitely cool to play with each other."
Not many siblings are able to have this experience, which will clearly be a special one for the Fitzpatrick brothers.
"I'm just excited for the chance with my brother here and having the opportunity to do something special," Dez said.
Dez Fitzpatrick's senior year will be memorable in more ways than one.
Not only will he continue to be a veteran leader on the field, but also as a big brother.
