The 1-seed Cardinals will face either 8-seed Syracuse or 9-seed Virginia on Friday at 2 p.m. ET.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After claiming its third straight Atlantic Coast Conference championship, No. 4 Louisville women's basketball (27-3, 16-2) opens ACC Tournament play as the 1-seed on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET against either 8-seed Syracuse (15-14, 9-9)  or 9-seed Virginia (13-16, 8-10).
Â
Syracuse and Virginia square off at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday.
Â
With the 68-48 win over Boston College, Louisville claimed a third straight ACC regular season title and its first ever outright ACC title. Prior to this stretch, Louisville had never won consecutive regular season conference titles. It also marks UofL's first outright regular season conference title since they won the Conference USA regular season championship in 2000-01.
Â
UofL seeks to sweep regular season and tournament titles for the second time in three seasons. In 2018, they swept titles for the first time since they swept the Metro in 1984. Those two seasons are the only times in program history where they have won both. They have won eight regular season titles (1984, 1992, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2018, 2019, 2020) and six conference tournament titles, the first five in the Metro (1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1993, 2018).
Louisville is 9-4 all-time in the ACC Tournament. They claimed the 2018 ACC Tournament Title and have advanced to the title game the past two seasons. This marks the second time that the Cardinals have been a 1-seed in the ACC Tourney.
Louisville boasts a 20-11 record (.645) in conference tournament games under head coach Jeff Walz. They won the 2018 ACC Tournament title and have reached five championship games (2008, 2009, 2014, 2018, 2019). UofL went 9-6 in BIG EAST, 2-1 in AAC, and 9-4 in ACC in that span.
Â
With the 70-53 win over Virginia Tech on Senior Day, Bionca Dunham, Jazmine Jones, Jessica Laemmle and Kylee Shook became the third straight senior class to conclude their career as the most accomplished class in program history. They are 124-18 (.873), which eclipses the 123 wins from last year's class. They will also set the program record for winning percentage and the program-record for fewest losses. This year's class is 9-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and are just two tournament wins shy of setting the program-record for wins in a four-year period. The record is 11 by the 2015-16, 2014-15 and 2013-14 classes.
