Seniors Shine as No. 5 Louisville Cruises to 70-53 Win Over Virginia Tech

All five seniors scored for the Cardinals, led by Jazmine Jones’ 18 points.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Jazmine Jones, Kylee Shook and Dana Evans scored in double figures to lead No. 5 Louisville to a 70-53 win over Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon at the KFC Yum! Center.
With the win, the Cards finish the regular season at 27-3 and 16-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Hokies drop to 21-8 and 11-7 in conference play.
Jessica Laemmle opened the scoring for Louisville as they held the Hokies scoreless for the first six minutes and jumped out to a 14-3 lead. The Cardinals ended the first stanza with a 19-8 advantage.
The Hokies pulled within 32-24 late in the second quarter before a Jones 3-pointer and a jumper by Yacine Diop at the buzzer put the Cardinals ahead 37-24 at the break.
Jones started hot in the third, scoring the Cards' first five points, and eight of 10 points to begin the second half. Virginia Tech was then held scoreless for nearly five minutes as Louisville built their biggest lead of the game at 55-32 with 9:29 to go.
The Hokies got within 15 points in the fourth quarter, but didn't get any closer as Louisville cruised to a 70-53 win.
Jones led UofL with 18 points, 11 of which came in the first half, and played in her 142nd game as a Cardinal, tying Myisha Hines-Allen and Shoni Schimmel for the most games played in program history.
Shook added 15 points and 12 rebounds for her fourth straight double-double and her fifth in her last six games. She has 11 double-doubles of the season and 17 for her career.
Bionca Dunham had eight points on 4-of-8 shooting and nine rebounds, while Evans added 11 points and four assists off the bench. Diop chipped in with eight points.
The victory marked the 124th win for seniors Dunham, Jones, Laemmle and Shook, making them the winningest senior class in program history.
Next up, the Cardinals head to Greensboro as the No. 1 seed in the ACC tournament. They open play on Friday at 2 p.m. ET.
