LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team took a 4-1 loss against No. 1 Pitt on Friday afternoon at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Friday marked the second match for the Cardinals against the top-ranked team in the country this fall, having lost to then-No. 1 Wake Forest in the season opener.
Pitt (5-0-0, 4-0-0 ACC) got on the board twice in the first half before lightning forced the two teams off the field for over an hour with less than four minutes remaining until halftime.
Louisville (1-4-1, 1-2-1) quickly cut the deficit in half after halftime, getting a goal from Elijah Amo in the 50th minute. Bradley Sample played a long pass from the defensive half that found Amo just beyond the backline and the senior took care of the rest for his second goal of the season.
The Panthers put the match away in the middle stages of the second half though, scoring again in the 64th and 70th minutes for the final margin.
The Cardinals were outshot 12-4 on the afternoon and Pitt held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
Louisville will wrap up the home portion of its fall schedule next Friday against Virginia Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET and the match will be televised on the ACC Network.
