Cardinals Set for the Notre Dame Invitational

Louisville, Ky - Following a 10-win showing at the Gene Edmonds Invitational to open the 2020 indoor season, the University of Louisville track and field team will head to South Bend, Ind. to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday.

The Notre Dame Invitational will take place all day on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. with the long jump followed by the triple jump. The meet will feature host Notre Dame, Illinois State, Loyola, and Marquette.

In the season opener at the Gene Edmonds Invitational, Louisville had multiple freshmen with outstanding debuts. Freshman Cayden Spencer-Thompson led Louisville with a win in the triple jump with a leap of 15.57m/51-1.00. Trey Allen won the men's high jump handily, clearing 2.10m/6-10.

Kayla Alexander and Sterling Warner broke school records for the 60m hurdles and 60m dash, respectively. Alexander won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.45 and set the school record in the preliminaries with a time of 8.40.   Warner finished second with a time of 6.77 while breaking his previous school record prelims and again in the semi-finals, clocking a 6.73.

In the women's 60m dash, the Cardinals finished one and two atop the leaderboards. Junior Sharnae Alston won the event with a time of 7.562, earning her first collegiate win. Finishing in a close second was Louisville's Brooke Raglin with a time of 7.565.

Dorcas Wasike will be making her season debut this weekend. Wasike was the ACC Champion in the 3,000m and runner up in the 5,000m last year. She went on to earn All-American honors  in the 5000m.Â
