Satterfield and the Cardinals Report for the Start of Fall Camp
August 03, 2019 | Football
Practice officially gets underway on Sunday afternoon.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Scott Satterfield era got underway as the University of Louisville football program reported Saturday to officially kick off the 2019 football season.
The Cardinals reported for a 4 p.m. meeting with compliance before gathering together with the coaching staff and their families for a steak and chicken dinner in the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex.
"We're excited to get going," Satterfield said. "They guys have worked extremely hard. They have really changed their bodies, and a lot of the player have put on the right type of weight. We had a tremendous buy-in from everyone. We're definitely a different football team."
Sunday will be the first time the new coaching staff will work together as a complete team since March when spring practice ended.
Satterfield will conduct split practices on Sunday and Monday before the entire team comes together for the third day.
The Red group will practice first from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the Black team will work out at 5:30 p.m.
"We have pushed our players extremely hard this summer, and they have responded every day," Satterfield said. "I think Mike Sirignano and his staff did a great job with the players getting them stronger and faster."
The Cardinals return 17 starters from last season, but also have added a number of new faces, including six graduate transfers to help bolster the roster. Ean Pfiefer, T.J. McCoy, Thomas Jackson are new to the offense, Â T.J. Holl, Ty Tyler and Isiah Hayes are new names on defense that the first-year coach hopes will stabilize the team.
"Because of a lack of depth, we've had to add to our roster," Satterfield said. "It's going to be a challenge to find the right guys for the right spots. We need to find roles for everyone. It's going to take time to find the right roles for a lot of those guys, but I know those players will help us."
Satterfield wants the first couple of weeks to just be about his football team. While he knows his team has to prepare for a tough opening game against a top-10 opponent in Notre Dame, he wants to find out more about his football team.
"We still have a lot to get done," Satterfield said. "We have installed quite a bit on both sides of the ball, but we want to take this time to focus on getting better each day. We have a lot of work to put in over the next couple of weeks, but we will focus on Notre Dame about the last 8-10 days of camp."
