The Cardinals kick off the 2019 season on Labor Day against Notre Dame at Cardinal Stadium.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The opening week of fall camp for the University of Louisville football team came to a close on Saturday with its annual media day at Cardinal Stadium.
Head coach Scott Satterfield, offensive coordinator Dwayne Ledford, defensive coordinator Bryan Brown and a group of student-athletes all spoke with the media about the upcoming 2019 season.
The media session followed the team's first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday morning, from which Satterfield praised the play of his defense in their first game-like simulation since the conclusion of spring practice.
"They created some turnovers today," Satterfield said. "That's what we want to see. They put pressure on the quarterback in a lot of different ways. We have to tackle better, but they made a lot of good plays today."
The Cardinals opened fall camp last Sunday and practiced in pads for the first time on Thursday. The new leader of the Louisville football program has recognized the challenges in front of the team competing weekly in a difficult Atlantic Coast Conference, but fall camp is only one-quarter of the way done with kickoff against Notre Dame still 23 days away.
"This league is really good," Satterfield added. "I know every week you're going to be playing a team that's well-coached and has great players. We have a pretty good grasp of what needs to happen. The good news is we've got three weeks to get better."
During the next three weeks, the Cardinals will continue to focus on improvement internally and focusing on their keys to success before turning their attention to the opposition.
"We're going to have to play really good football, smart football, disciplined football and we're going to have to play extremely hard to win football games."
Satterfield is not concerned however, with the effort of the team that steps onto the field this fall.
"We'll have 11 guys that will play extremely hard every snap."
Louisville will practice again on Sunday. The Cardinals open the 2019 season on Labor Day against Notre Dame at 8 p.m. ET at Cardinal Stadium.
