
Konno Helps Japan Advance to U19 World Cup Round of 16

Norika Konno averaged 7.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in three games.
BANGKOK, Thailand – University of Louisville women's basketball incoming freshman Norika Konno helped Japan advance to the round of 16 in the 2019 U19 World Cup with a 69-58 win over Colombia on Tuesday morning.
The win helped the Japan U19 team move to 2-1 in World Cup action after opening with a 74-67 win over Germany and falling to Spain, 79-65.
Konno finished with 11 points in the win over Colombia, while adding three rebounds and an assist. She opened the tournament with four points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals in the win over Germany.
She is averaging 7.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in three games.
Japan opens round of 16 play against Hungary on Wednesday at 5:45 a.m. ET. Hungary fell 95-50 to USA and head coach Jeff Walz on Tuesday morning.
USA went 3-0 in the group phase and opens the round of 16 against Germany on Wednesday at 3:30 a.m. ET.
If both teams advance, USA and Japan would square off in the semifinals on Saturday, July 27.
Konno is joined in Louisville's 2019 class by incoming freshmen Nyah Green and Ramani Parker.
