
Two Cardinals Named to the 2018-19 NABC Honors Court

Ryan McMahon and V.J. King were named to the NABC Honors Court
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2018-19 NABC Honors Court, recognizing those men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season. The list includes Louisville's Ryan McMahon and V.J. King who excelled in the classroom last season.Â
McMahon earned his bachelor's degree in marketing with a cumulative grade point average of 3.447.   McMahon was named a member of the 2019 All-ACC Academic Men's Basketball Team and was also named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll. He is also a six-time Red and Black Scholar. Additionally, he was on the Dean's List in the spring and fall of 2018.
King has a cumulative GPA of 3.375 and will earn his degree in sports administration. Like McMahon, King was a member of the 2019 All-ACC Academic Men's Basketball Team and the ACC Academic Honor Roll. He was named a Red and Black Scholar six times in his three seasons with the Cardinals. King was also named to the Dean's list in the Fall of 2017 and the spring and fall of 2018.
In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows: 1. Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player. 2. Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2018-19 academic year. 3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution. 4. Member of a NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach.
The men's basketball team has attained a collective 3.0 GPA for 21 of the last 22 semesters, including a 3.176 cumulative team mark for the Spring 2019 semester. The Cardinals produced a collective 3.265 grade point average for the 2018-19 academic year. Â
About the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)
Located in Kansas City, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve and enhance the sport. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches.Â
