
Williamson Among 34 Vying For USA Men’s U19 World Cup Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Louisville incoming freshman forward Samuell Williamson is among 34 athletes who will participate in the 2019 USA Basketball Men's U19 World Cup Team training camp from June 15-18 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Williamson averaged 25 points, 11.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists a game as a senior during the 2018-19 season in helping Rockwall (Texas) High School (30-6) reach the regional semifinals and achieve a No. 8 ranking in the final regular-season Class 6A state poll.
The 6-7 McDonald's All-American from Rockwall, Texas, was a first team all-state selection by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 6-A as a senior, a first team All-USA Today Texas Boys Basketball team honoree, and was the Texas District 11-6A MVP. He is ranked No. 19 nationally by Rivals.com, No. 18 by 247Sports.com and is No. 24 in the 2019 ESPN 100 rankings.
Williamson won the three-point competition at the 2019 American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk & 3-Point championship in Minneapolis on April 5 and participated in the McDonald's All-America game and Jordan Brand Classic post-season events. This will be the first USA Basketball training camp experience for Williamson.
Training camp will be used to determine the official, 12-member roster for the 2019 USA Basketball Men's U19 World Cup Team, which will be selected by the USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team Committee. Finalists for the team are expected to be announced on the morning of June 18, and the team will be named prior to its departure for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in Greece on June 24. Athletes eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens born on or after Jan. 1, 2000.
Expected at trials are six hopefuls who will be college sophomores in 2019-20, including Kessler Edwards (Pepperdine/Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), Tyrese Haliburton (Iowa State/Oshkosh, Wis.), Kira Lewis Jr. (Alabama/Meridianville, Ala.), Isaac Likekele (Oklahoma State/Mansfield, Texas), Jayden Scrubb (John A. Logan College/Louisville, Ky.), Trevion Williams (Purdue/Chicago, Ill.) and Bryce Wills (Stanford/White Plains, N.Y.).
