Twenty Athletes Qualify for NCAA East Preliminary Rounds

Louisville will have 22 entries in the preliminary round
LOUISVILLE, Ky. --Â Twenty University of Louisville track and field student-athletes make up 22 total entries for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Rounds, the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced on Thursday.Â

The preliminary competitions are scheduled for May 23 - 25. The University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. will host the East Preliminary and California State University, Sacramento in Sacramento, California will host the West Preliminary. The qualifiers out of these two regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.

The women's squad has 11 student-athletes competing in 12 events, while the men's squad qualified nine student-athletes in 10 events.

Martice Moore, Donald McClinton, Sydney Hill and Kayla Alexander will represent the Cardinals in sprints and hurdles. Moore, the ACC runner-up, will compete in the 400m hurdles. Kayla Alexander and Sydney Hill will compete in the 100m hurdles. Donald McClinton will compete in the 200m.Â

Dorcas Wasike, Ivine Chemutai, Albert Kosgei and Emmanual Cheboson will compete in distance events. Wasike and Chemutai will compete in the 10,000m for the women while Emmanual Cheboson will compete in the men's event. Kosgei, the ACC runner-up, will run in the 3000m steeplechase.Â

Makenli Forrest, Rashida Harris, Halee Hudson, Cade Richeson and Mitchell Kessler will represent Louisville in the throwing events. Forrest will compete in both the discus and the hammer throws. Harris, the ACC runner-up, will compete in the shot put while Hudson will compete in the hammer. On the men's side, Mitchell Kessler will compete in the hammer while Richeson will compete in the shot put.Â

Louisville will have eight athletes competing in jumps and pole vault during the preliminary round. Gabriela Leon, the ACC runner-up, will compete in the pole vault along with Morgan Zacharias. Alivia Ash will compete in the high jump on the women's side while Luke Nichols and Anthony McRoberts will compete on the men's side. In the long jump, Alexis Gibbons will compete for the women and Marcus Jegede will compete for the men. McRoberts will also compete in the triple jump.Â
