Cardinals Finish Strong on Day Two of the ACC Outdoor Championships

Louisville women stand in secnd while the men are currently sixth
Charlottesville, Va. – The University of Louisville track and field teams finished the second day of competition at the ACC Outdoor Championships with the women in second place through eight events and the men in sixth place through nine events.
Senior Holly Hankenson started the day off with a fourth place finish in the heptathlon. She wrapped up the day with a win in the 800m with a time of 2:15.94 to finish with a season best 5313 points. Freshman Aaron Johnson finished fourth in the decathlon with a personal best 6493 points. Both Hankenson and Johnson earned second team All-ACC honors.
Gabriela Leon and Rashida Harris both finished second in their respective events for the Cardinals, earning first team All-ACC honors. Leon finished second in the pole vault, clearing 4.22m/13-10. Harris finished second in the shot put with a personal best throw of 16.54m/54-3.25.
Freshman Luke Nichols finished third in the high jump. Nichols leaped 2.11m/6-11 to earn first team All-ACC honors.
Two Cardinals advanced to the finals in the 110m hurdles. Martice Moore finished second in the prelims with a time of 13.96 while Tyler Ettel finished eighth with a time of 14.41.
To finish out the day, Albert Kosgei ran a personal best time of 8:46.72 in the 3000m steeplechase for a runner-up finish. Kosgei earned first team All-ACC honors for the first time in his career.
Due to the threat of heavy rain later on Saturday, the final and deciding session of the three-day ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will begin with field events at 10 a.m. at Virginia's Lannigan Field – 3 ½ hours earlier than originally scheduled. Running events will now start at 12:05 p.m.
Finals are set in five total men's and women's field events, and 20 running event finals are on the docket. The competition is now set to conclude with the running of the women's 4x400 relay at 2:40 p.m., followed by the men's 4x400 at 2:50.
Despite the change in the schedule, ACC Network Extra will continue its live streaming as planned with three hours of coverage of Saturday's finals. Sean Kenney returns to handle play-by-play, while former U.S. Olympic standout Dan O'Brien will serve as analyst for the broadcast, which now begins at noon and continue until the meet's conclusion around 3 p.m. The pair will be joined by distance race analyst David Mitchell and Melanie Newman as sideline reporter.
