Forty-nine student-athletes earn a 3.0 GPA or higher.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -While the University of Louisville head football coach Scott Satterfield was hired only five months ago, he's helped the Cardinals make tremendous strides in the classroom over a short period of time.
Â
Hired in December, Satterfield stressed the importance of excelling off the field, and the message was well-received, which was reflected by the impressive numbers the Cardinals collected in his first full semester leading the football program.
Â
The Cardinals achieved an outstanding 2.85 grade-point average for the 2019 spring semester, with 49 student-athletes earning a 3.0 or better GPA. Â One student-athlete achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA.
"I'm very proud of the team's effort in the classroom during the spring semester," Satterfield said. "To have more than half the team earn a 3.0 GPAÂ or better is a credit to the commitment our student-athletes have in excelling off the field and the importance stressed on earning their degrees. I'd like to extend a great amount of gratitude to our academic staff for tirelessly working with our players and fostering a culture of achievement."
Â
Louisville received an NCAA Public Recognition Award for a perfect 1,000 Academic Progress Rate score for the 2017-18 season, the second one in school history.
Â
The Cardinals had 23 graduates for the year, including 13 going through the graduation ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
Â
When the Cardinals open the 2019 season versus Notre Dame on Sept. 2, 14 players will take the field with their degrees in hand.
