
No. 5 Louisville to Face Oregon State in Sweet 16

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville women's basketball (31-3, 14-2) will face Oregon State in the regional semifinal of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET.
The Cardinals are seeking their second consecutive trip to the Elite Eight.

Louisville advanced to its ninth NCAA Sweet 16 in school history with a 71-50 win over Michigan on Sunday. It marks their third straight trip and seventh in the last nine years. All nine Sweet 16 appearances have occurred in the last 11 years under the guidance of head coach Jeff Walz.

Louisville is one of seven programs to reach the NCAA Sweet 16 at least seven times since 2010.

In the NCAA Tournament, the Cardinals are giving up 42.0 points per game and 32.7 percent shooting, while forcing 18.5 turnovers per game. UofL is outscoring opponents 40-15 in the first quarter and 40-14 in the third quarter.

With 985 career points, Sam Fuehring is 15 points shy of becoming the 29th 1,000-point scorer in Louisville history. Her nine career blocks in the NCAA Tourney rank third all-time in program history.

Asia Durr ranks third all-time in program history with 224 points scored in the NCAA Tournament. She is 19 points shy of tying Angel McCoughtry for second. She averages 18.7 points in the NCAA Tournament all-time, which also ranks third.

Arica Carter ranks fourth all-time with 37 assists in NCAA Tournament play.

The seniors have now made three trips to the Sweet 16 and one trip to the Final Four, and are a combined 9-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

ABOUT THE BEAVERS
Oregon State (26-7, 14-4 Pac-12) is making its fourth-consecutive appearance in the Sweet 16, following a 76-70 victory over fifth-seeded Gonzaga in the second round Monday evening. In the first round, the Beavers pulled out an 80-75 overtime victory over Boise State.

OSU finished third in a highly-competitive Pac-12 race and earned wins over Oregon, UCLA and South Carolina, in addition to a close loss to Notre Dame in November. Head coach Scott Rueck's team features a balanced scoring attack, led by redshirt sophomore guard Destiny Slocum (15.7 points per game) and junior guard Mikayla Pivec (15.2 points per game).

Through the first two games of the tournament, Pivec is averaging 19.5 points per game, while sophomore guard Aleah Goodman has averaged 16 points. Pivec also ranked third in the league in rebounds with 9.2 per game while senior center Joanna Grymek ranked second in field goal percentage with a .628 clip.
Series History:Â Friday's game will be the third all-time meeting between Louisville and Oregon State, with the Cardinals holding a 2-0 advantage. The two teams met in last season's Lexington regional final with the Cards earning a 76-43 victory. They also played in the Hardwood Tournament of Hope Puerto, Vallarta, Mexico on Nov. 12, 2012 with the Cards winning 61-43.
