Cards Earn Pair of Silver Medals at Head of the Hooch

Louisville finished second in the Novice 4+ and the Championship 8+
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The University of Louisville rowing team competed in its first full-team regatta of the season, as the Cardinals participated in the Head of the Hooch Saturday, November 2. The Cards earned a pair of silver medals over the course of three races. Unfortunately for the team, a lengthy fog delay in the morning forced the cancellation of the Championship 4+ event.

In the College & Club Novice 4+ race, the Cardinals earned silver, finishing ahead of 29 other boats. The team of Peyton Hengen (coxswain), Kristina Synder, Sydney Couch, Camryn Harris, and Molly Gillikin crossed the finish line in a time of 18:48.352. They finished 22 seconds behind first place Eastern Michigan.

In the Championship 8+ race, UofL put three boats in the water. The V8 boat of Rosie Devine (coxswain), Caitlin Bentley, Violette Legrand, Claudia Figueiredo, Mahalia Shand, Jordan Kraski, Morgan Senogles, Sydney Paulus, and McKenzie Sweeney, also picked up a second place finish with a time of 15:20.944. They finished two seconds behind the winner Alabama, and ahead of ACC rival North Carolina by nearly 26 seconds.

The 2V8+ crew finished in eighth place in a time of 15:47.835. The boat consisted of Audrey Sholiton (coxswain), Kimberly Dil, Emmy Wuensch, Abigail Davies, Anna Kiser, Haylee Judge, Grace Herbert, Megan Lee, and Taleala McCarthy. They nearly took down UNC's top boat, finishing just over a second behind. They finished ahead of both North Carolina's and Eastern Michigan's second varsity boats.

Louisville's 3V8+ boat took 11th place, finishing ahead of Eastern Michigan's second varsity boat and UNC's third, with a time of 16:00.711. The team consisted of Ellee Grosser (coxswain), Caleigh Richards-Goos, Emily Corso, Riley Kerber, Gillian Burns, Samantha Wack, Victoria Goldin, Bethany Newcomb, and Michaela Dukes.

In the final race of the day, the novice squad had another opportunity to hit the water in the College & Club Novice 8+. The top novice boat finish in sixth place among the field of 28, crossing the finish line in a time of 18:12.353. The team featured Hunter West (coxswain), Kristina Synder, Madison Cicha, Sophie Zeamer, Camryn Harris, Nahdeen Hassanain, Molly Gillikin, Summer Allen, and Sydney Couch.

The Cardinals' second boat in the N8+ race placed 20th with a time of 20:15.849. Among those in the boat were: Emily Hamilton (coxswain), Allison Siegel, Lauren Fuller, Camellia Pearson, Kyelia Maxwell, Leah Harris, Caylee Hill, Peyton Hengen, and Abigail Mackin.

The fall season concludes for the Cardinals at the Rivanna Romp, November 17, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
