Cardinal Throwers Have Solid Showing at the Illini Invitational

Makenli Forrest captures her third weight throw win of the season
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Louisville track and field throwers competed at the Illini Invitational on Saturday afternoon, capturing the title in women's weight throw and eight top-five finishes.
Makenli Forrest started the morning by capturing the top spot in the women's weight throw, throwing 20.72m/67-11.75 for the win. Halee Hudson threw a personal best 19.30m/63-04.00 for third place. Carsen Cassell rounded out the women's weight throw competitors, taking fifth place at 17.57m/57-07.75.
On the men's side, Spencer Harris tossed 18.09m/59-04.25 in the weight throw for second place while Mitchell Kessler finished right behind in third place with a personal best throw of 17.82m/58-05.75.
In shot put, Rashida Harris led the Cardinals on the women's side with a personal best throw of 15.41m/50-06.75. Victoria Farley took sixth place with a season-best throw of 13.95m/45-09.25.
Christian Buckley and Cade Richeson took third and fourth place in men's shot put, respectively, to close out the day for Louisville. Buckley threw for 16.96m/55-07.75 while Richeson tossed 16.52m/54-02.50.
The full team will be back in action next weekend on Feb. 1 and 2 at the Power Five Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.
