Cards Send a Pair of Doubles Teams to Finals of Commodore Scramble

George Hedley and Brandon Lancaster will face Federico Gomez and Fabien Salle in the doubles championship match

The University of Louisville men's tennis team will send a pair of doubles teams to the finals of Vanderbilt's Commodore Scramble after going undefeated in the semifinals on Saturday. Additionally, freshman Fabien Salle led the way in singles with two wins on the day.

"It was Fabian Salle's turn to have a perfect 3-0 day showing his potential," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "He is acclimating to college tennis. I am proud of our doubles teams who made it an all-Louisville final. Brandon and George upset the No. 1 seeded team from Vanderbilt while Fede and Fabien beat the other Vandy team. Brandon had another great effort coming back from 0-4 down in the third set to win 6-4. Fede's singles win was impressive and a semifinal showing is a job well done."

In the doubles semifinals, seniors Brandon Lancaster and George Hedley defeated Vanderbilt's George Harwell and Maxwell Freeman 6-1 while Salle teamed with senior Federico Gomez for a 6-2 win over the Commodores' Panu Virtanen and Billy Rowe. The Cardinal duos will face off for the title on Sunday.

In singles action, Salle defeated Belmont's Marko Ilic 6-4, 6-1 and followed with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over Tennessee Tech's Rafael Tosetto. Gomez topped Vanderbilt's Billy Rowe 6-7, 7-5, 6-3 and Lancaster picked up a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision against Furman's Jake Munns.
