Woods Selected to USA Field Hockey World Cup Roster

2017 senior Nicole Woods will travel to London for the 2018 World Cup
The University of Louisville's Nicole Woods has been named to USA Field Hockey National Team 18-athlete roster for the 2018 Vitality Hockey Women's World Cup which will take place at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre's pitch at the venue at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.
The event is made up of 16 women's teams, that are broken into four pools of four teams. FIH Hero World Ranked No. 7 USA sits in Pool B with defending Rio 2016 Olympic Gold Medalists No. 2 England, along with No. 10 India and No. 16 Ireland.
The USWNT is set to play Ireland in their first pool game on Saturday, July 21 at 1 p.m. ET. Â The opening contest will feature a matchup between former teammates Woods goes up against former Cardinal teammate Ayeisha McFerran who is a goalkeeper for the Irish. Â
Woods, who completed her collegiate playing career in 2017, has tallied 24 caps after being named to the USWNT in the spring of 2017. Last year she helped the USA qualify for the World Cup by capturing the gold medal in the 2017 World League Semifinals. Since graduating from Louisville, she has competed in the USWNT series against The Netherlands, Chile and Argentina.
The Beverly, Mass., earned 2017 National Field Hockey Coaches' Association All-America honors and is a three-time NFHCA All-West Region selection. As a senior co-captain, she tallied 19 points (6G, 7A) while helping Louisville (14-8) reach the finals of the ACC Championship for the first time since joining the league in 2014. The three-time ACC selection is a four-year starter is a three-time All-ACC selection and finishes her career ranked ninth on Louisville's list for career points (71) and assists (25).
