Simon Zach has been named all-academic for the third-straight season.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville men's golfers Simon Zach and Matthias Schmid have been named to the 2017-18 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Golf Team, announced Thursday by the conference office.
Zach, a junior from Prague, Czech Republic., has earned honors for the third time in his career, while Schmid, a freshman from Maxhvette, Germany, is a first time honoree.
Finishing third on the team in stroke average, Zach put together a consistent junior season. He was only one of two players on the team to appear in all 13 events and put together three top-10 finishes.
He posted the best round in school history by winning the Warrior Princeville Invitational at 21-under par and set a school record with a round of 195. The marketing major shot a 6-under par to finish third at the Louisville Intercollegiate.
Schmid was the top player for the Cardinals this season, finishing with the team's top stroke average at 71.72. Appearing in all 13 events, Schmid posted two top-five finishes and three in the top 10.
A business major, Schmid put together his best performance at the Princeville Warrior Invitational by putting together a three-day score of 18-under-par to finish in a tie for third. He fired 66-66-66=195 to put together the second-best round in school history.
Schmid flew out of the gates, posting a pair of top-10 finishes in his first two events, ending in a tie for fourth at the Rod Morris Invitational and sixth at the Bearcat Invitational.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
