Cards face Miami and Florida State at Bass-Rudd
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team concludes its regular season schedule this weekend with a pair of matches against top-20 programs at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals (13-10, 3-9 ACC) will take on No. 17 Miami on Friday, April 20 at 3 p.m., followed by their home finale against No. 18 Florida State on Sunday, April 22 at 11 a.m.
Â
Louisville will look once again to gain momemtum in the last weekend before the ACC Championships in Cary, N.C.  In last Friday's contest with No. 48 Clemson, the Cards took the opening doubles point thanks to a 6-4 win at first position by the No. 57 pair of Mariana Humberg and Abbie Pahz. After the Tigers pushed ahead to 3-1 with three consecutive singles wins, Humberg and Tiffany Huber pulled out three-set victories to tie the match, but the comeback effort fell short with a third-set tiebreaker loss at sixth position.
Â
On Sunday at Wake Forest, Louisville was unable to overcome the opening doubles point and a pair of three-set losses, falling 5-1 to the No. 26 Demon Deacons. Sena Suswam earned the Cards' lone point of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles, while Pahz's match was abandoned late in the third set. Pahz and Humberg remain ranked in this week's ITA rankings, moving up 12 spots to No. 45 after beating Clemson's No. 32 duo of Marie Leduc and Fernanda Navarro.
Â
Sunday's match will be the final home event for three Cardinals: Humberg, Pahz, Jessie Paul and Ariana Rodriguez. Prior to the match, the class will be recognized for their accomplishments to Louisville tennis.
Â
No. 17 Miami (13-6, 9-3 ACC) has prevailed in four straight outings, shutting out Syracuse and Virginia Tech in its last two. Earlier this season, the Hurricanes handed Georgia Tech one of its only four losses of the season in a 4-3 result. Perez-Somarriba has also teamed with junior Ana Madcur to form the No. 36 pair in the ITA standings, one of four ranked Hurricanes pairs. Miami beat Louisville, 5-2, in last season's meeting at Bass-Rudd.
Â
No. 18 Florida State (16-7, 6-5 ACC) enters the final weekend on a five-match winning streak that includes wins over ranked Virginia and Syracuse.
