Tennis Falls to No. 48-ranked Clemson

Cards battle to tie at 3-3 before falling 4-3 in tightly contested match.
The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 48-ranked Clemson Friday evening in Clemson, S.C.

U of L won the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and No. 3. The No.57 ranked Cardinal pair of Mariana Humberg and Abbie Pahz upset the No, 32 ranked partnership of Marie Leduc and Fernanda Navarro 6-4. The pair of Ally Miller-Krasilnikov and Tate Schroeder upended the Cards duo of Sena Suswam and Ariana Rodriguez 6-3. The point was clinched for the Cardinals when Raven Neely and Maya Smith defeated Daniela Ruiz and Sydney Riley 6-4 to take the 1-0 score into the singles portion of the match.

Clemson evened the scored when No. 19-ranked Marie Leduc downed Aleksandra Mally 6-2, 6-3. Next to fall for the Cards was Abbie Pahz, who lost to Tate Schroeder 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 2 slot. Ally Miller-Krasilnikov outlasted Raven Neely (6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 5.

Louisville's Mariana Humberg countered with a comeback win at No. 2, defeating Fernanda Navarro 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 followed by Tiffany Huber beating CU's Sydney Riley 6-7 (8-10), 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) to tie the score at three apiece.

The match came down to the No. 6 spot where CU's Daniela Ruiz dropped her first set 6-3, rolled to a 5-2 win in the second set and then held on to win 7-6 (7-4) in the third set to clinch the win for the Tigers.

The Cardinals head to Wake Forest on Sunday for a match with No. 26 Wake Forest (16-9, 4-6 ACC) at noon.
