LOUISVILLE, Ky. - As the University of Louisville football team begins spring practice on Tuesday, anticipation is growing for the completion of the expansion of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex..
Construction began following the 2016 season, and is expected to be completed in time for the 2018 season opener versus Indiana State.
In the stadium, fans can see the renovation of the stadium. which will include giant video boards, additional fan seating, club seats, premium boxes, and exclusive field level suites.
On the inside, the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex, originally built in 1998, is receiving a major facelift, which is scheduled to be completed sometime this summer.
Renovations have taken place inside the football complex, which has included dramatic changes to the training areas and improving the overall student-athlete experience. When completed, an additional 100,000 square feet of space will allow the weight room and conditioning center to double in size, creating space for team workouts, conditioning, and an enhanced athletic training space equipped with a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy area.
Â
A luxurious and spacious players' lounge, improvements for coaches' offices and the team locker room, and expansive theatre-style meeting areas also will be among the major improvements dedicated for student-athlete development.
