Senior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff won the 'A' singles division title with his fourth win of the tournament.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff captured the 'A' singles title Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to lead the University of Louisville men's tennis team through the final day of competition at the Louisville Invitational.
"Obviously the star of the weekend was Chris," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "He hasn't played since June and we didn't know what was going to happen this weekend, but he really showed his mental toughness. Even though he's not 100-percent physically, the mind of a champion is still there."
Morin-Kougoucheff won his fourth straight match of the weekend, defeating Austin Peay's Almantis Ozelis 6-4, 6-2 in the finals to secure the championship for the Cardinals.
In the 'B' doubles consolation finals, Fredrik Moe and Juan Paredes fell to Xavier's Jan Vrba and Michael Lee by a mark of 8-5.
Paredes secured a victory for Louisville in the Red Draw, triumphing over Chattanooga's Paul LaHue 8-7 (7-3). In other Red Draw action, Moe was defeated by Tennessee Tech's Wenc Albin 8-6.
The Cards will be back in action on Thursday as they head to Birmingham, Ala. for the USA F29 Futures.
