October 19, 2018 | Men's Tennis
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville advanced three players to singles semifinals appearances on the first day of the Louisville Invitational Friday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.  Senior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and freshman Fabien Salle reached the 'A' semifinals while freshman Alex Wesbrooks will play in the 'B' semifinals.
Â
"A lot of people enjoyed seeing Chris Morin Kougoucheff back on the court and he did not disappoint," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "He showed today that while he may not be 100 percent, he is still ranked No. 36 in the country. He is in the A Division Singles semifinal along with teammate Fabien Salle. Alex Wesbrooks continues his good run from the regionals and is in the semifinals of the B Division. Fredrik Moe is in the quarterfinals of the C Division."
Â
In singles, Morin-Kougoucheff toppled Austin Peay's Christian Alvin Edison 6-1, 6-2 in the first round, going on to defeat Middle Tennessee's Stijn Slump 7-6, 6-0 in the quarterfinals to secure a spot in tomorrow's semifinals of the A division.
Â
Salle also picked up two singles wins on the day. After falling 7-6 in the first set to Belmont's Jake Briggs, the freshman won the final two sets in a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 decision to move on to the quarterfinals. Salle made quick work of Ball State's Nemanja Guzina, picking up the 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Â
Freshmen Wesbrooks and David Mizrahi also turned in solid performances in the B singles division. Wesbrooks downed Austin Peay's Timo Kiesslich 6-1, 7-6 in the first round, while Mizrahi won a tightly-contested match over Illinois State's Diego Herrera 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Â
In the C singles division, Fredrik Moe triumphed over of Chattanooga's Bo Nash, securing a 6-2, 6-2 win in the opening round. Despite a strong effort, Juan Paredes fell to Belmont's David Faulkner by a mark of 6-4, 6-4.
Â
