Freshman Alex Wesbrooks wins in single and doubles

Freshman Alex Wesbrooks went undefeated in singles and doubles on day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association/Ohio Valley Regional Championships Thursday at the University of Tennessee.

"Alex Wesbrooks has a perfect day for us and George Hedley had a gutsy win at the end of the day," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We are looking for even better tennis tomorrow."

The day started with a round of doubles. Wesbrooks teamed with junior Clement Filho to outlast Indiana's Bennett Crane and Patrick Fletchall 8-7 (2). Senior George Hedley and sophomore Fredrik Moe fell 8-4 to Butler's Michael Dickson and Spencer Lang.

In singles action, Wesbrooks topped Dayton's Will Harper 6-2, 6-2 and Hedley picked up a 7-6, 6-7, 6-1 win over Dayton's Lorenzo Rollhauser. Filho lost 6-3, 6-4 to the tournament's No. 11 seed, Andrew Rogers from Tennessee. Moe fell 6-3, 6-3 to UT Chattanooga's Nickl Gerdes.

The tournament will continue Friday at 8 a.m.
