Cards set to face Middle Tennessee and Tulsa
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following an undefeated opening home stand, the University of Louisville women's tennis team heads on the road for the first time in the regular season this weekend. The Cardinals (5-0) travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to face Middle Tennessee on Friday, Feb. 2 at 4 p.m., before meeting Tulsa on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m.
Â
Last weekend, Louisville tallied three victories over UTEP, Northern Kentucky and Western Kentucky. On Friday, the Cards shutout the Miners and Norse, before beating the Hilltoppers, 5-2, on Sunday morning. The WKU match marked the first time this season that Louisville had dropped a game in competition.
Â
The Cards have been especially dominant in doubles competition, with the senior pair of Abbie Pahz and Mariana Humberg tallying a 16-2 record this season. At first position, Aleksandra Mally has posted four victories in the spring season, dropping only one game so far.
Â
Middle Tennessee (5-1) has posted a solid start to the season, shutting out four opponents in the opening weeks. Head coach Charlie Ramsay's Blue Raiders are looking to bounce back from a 10-15 campaign in 2017. Junior Kim Kermet enters this weekend with a 5-1 record, featuring wins at four different positions, while All-C-USA sophomore Lidia Burrows sits at 4-1.
Â
Saturday's opponent, Tulsa, offers the strongest challenge yet in this young season. The Golden Hurricane (5-2) earned wins at the top three positions in a 4-3 loss at No. 18 Arkansas on Jan. 23 and are coming off a 4-1 loss at No. 10 Michigan. Coach Dean Orford's squad went 20-8 last season, falling in the American Athletic Conference Championship and earning an at-large bid into the NCAA Championship. Sophomore Martina Okalova, currently ranked No. 122 in the ITA singles rankings, has amassed an 11-4 record this season, including a 5-1 mark in the regular campaign.

Recaps of both matches will be available on GoCards.com following the conclusion of competition.
