Cards sweep Dayton 7-0
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team defeated the University of Dayton 7-0 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. This was the second sweep of the day for the Cardinals.
"It was a good day," said UofL head coach Mark Beckham. "We actually have an experienced team and I haven't had a senior-junior oriented team in a while and it is good to see us take care of business. A lot of times in the past, we let teams hang around, or drop sets and even a few matches. Today we didn't let that happen. We stayed focused for long periods of time and took care of it on the court. We were pressed in a couple of spots but took care of it and we won all the sets."
The Cardinals won all three doubles matchups to start the afternoon. At No. 2, Raven Neely and Aleksandra Mally defeated Marlys Bridgham and Mattea Kilstofte, followed by Mariana Humberg and Abbie Pahz overtaking Jade Kazamoto and Kelly Pleiman 6-1 at No. 1 to clinch the doubles point. Ariana Rodriguez and Tiffany Huber closed out the doubles matchups with a 6-3 win over Anna Delaney and Natalie Allen.
In singles, Mariana Humberg grabbed the first point for the Cardinals, winning her first set 6-0 followed by Mattea Kilstofte retiring at 2-0. At No. 5, Raven Neely captured the next point for the Cardinals, defeating Kelly Pleiman 6-0, 6-2. Ariana Rodriguez clinched the match for the Cardinals, getting the fourth point by beating Jackie Kawamoto 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6.
Abbie Pahz was the next to finish for the Cardinals, overtaking Jade Kawamoto 6-2, 7-5 at No.3 . Tiffany Huber followed suit, getting the better of Anna Delaney 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Finally, Aleksandra Mally finished the night for the Cardinals, outlasting Marlys Bridgham 7-6 (5), 6-3 to give the Cardinals their seventh and final point.
The Cardinals will play their next match Friday against UTEP at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
